Prince George's County Executive Jack Johnson yesterday made a special stop to honor his promise to the student body of Berkshire Elementary School.

On Sept. 14, during an assembly visit, Johnson challenged the students to read twenty five books by May 2008 and in return he would pay them one dollar per book that was read.

One hundred and fifty six Berkshire students from Head Start to sixth grade responded to Johnson's challenge and received twenty five dollar gift cards from Target along with a "Twenty Five Book Campaign" certificate signed by the county executive recognizing their outstanding accomplishment.

"I am so very proud of each of you for responding to my challenge," he said. "You exceeded my expectations.  I especially want to thank the parents for teaching your children to accept challenges. Your children's success today was instilled by you."
